Journey as a Teacher and Spiritual Mentor

My start in education and spirituality began early, sparked by a passion for learning and a deep curiosity about life’s greater questions. In my early twenties I stepped into the classroom, marking the beginning of a vocation that would span continents and disciplines.

I began teaching when I was just 23 years old. From the very beginning, education felt like more than just a job—it was a calling. Over the years, I took a few pauses to pursue further training, both in Italy and abroad. Each experience added depth to my understanding and widened my perspective on learning, people, and life.

My journey in education started in primary schools, where I encountered the wonder and curiosity of young minds. I later moved on to teaching high school, and eventually found my place at the University, where I’ve been teaching since 2011. The academic world allowed me to grow intellectually, and my early passion for education gradually matured into a deeper academic focus on Learning and Teaching.

Yet, running alongside this professional path was another thread just as vital—my fascination with religion and spirituality. This led me first to Theology and, later, to Philosophy, where I became especially drawn to the Philosophy of Religion. For me, these disciplines are not simply areas of study, but doorways to understanding the human spirit and our search for meaning.

Serving as a University Chaplain for nine years profoundly shaped me. Walking alongside students from different countries, faiths, and beliefs was not just a pastoral duty—it was a privilege. These encounters expanded my heart and deepened my understanding. I came to truly value the richness that comes from diverse perspectives, especially when wrestling with life’s big questions.

Now, as I reflect on where I’ve been and look toward what lies ahead, I find three guiding lights that shape my journey.
First, I have a deep love for teaching philosophy—especially when it allows me to explore the philosophy of religion. I find myself constantly asking where Christianity is headed in today’s world, a world full of complexities, tensions, and transformations.

Second, I find great fulfilment in accompanying students as they find their way. Their questions, challenges, and insights keep me alert and open. They remind me that teaching is never a one-way street—it is a dialogue that constantly renews both teacher and student.
Lastly, I feel a deep desire to share the wisdom I’ve gathered from Philosophy and Theology in a way that touches hearts and opens minds. Whether through talks, discussions, or quiet moments of reflection, I hope to inspire others to pause, think, and contemplate. If I can help spark even a moment of meaningful insight in someone’s life, then I believe my work has purpose.

In all of this, I see myself not only as a teacher but as a spiritual mentor. My hope is to continue walking alongside others—learning, listening, and growing—on this beautiful and mysterious journey of faith, thought, and life.
